| It is very difficult for the students to express themselves beyond conventional, polite, superficial statements. This is partly the result of an educational system that does not promote the critical thinking. A great effort is made at In Movement to encourage students to explore their thoughts and emotions more deeply, although we still have much to accomplish in this regard. A few unedited samples of their thoughts are collected below: |

Before Joining In Movement: |
I was not confident of what I did especially when it came to talking in a crowds of people and could not socialize with my friends to carry out any given activity at school and generally I lacked life skills. |
| |
I was not a kind of person who could drive my own life and when it came to group work especially when we had to contribute by raising answers. I could only go on with what others have contributed to no matter whether they were irrelevant or relevant to the work we were to do. |
| |
I was really in my own world, I mean things were really difficulty for me. Everything I tried out was meaningless to me as I did not love it. Actually I did not believe in my self and I was not able to know that there are things that can be done to improve on my life. |
| |
I was actually not confidence enough about myself. I always knew that my views had no important and therefore there is reason as to why I should give them in. |
| |
My life was really stuck, though I knew how to draw and paint my Art piece, I saw it as just apart time activity. Yet to other people it meant something great, i. e. you can sell these art pieces and earn a living. |

In Movement Changed Me: |
... has been positive to my life I am going to use it to change my society through music. |
| |
I finally know that in order to get the best from our environment, we must have to look after it so that you and me can survive the severe pain brought by misuse of our environment i.e. cutting down of trees, with out replacement, leads to desertification. |
| |
... my creativity was so poor, but now my creativity is so high I can see something in a gadet you may see as a useless material and get money out of it - to teach me how to change things in the environment like polythene bags, plastic rubber, clay, metallic glass, wood to form out goods of more value. |
| |
There are many things that I did not know like being aggressive in some situations like when a boy is conning me and being submissive when some one is good to me. . . . it means being final to your word like if you are saying no to a man you have to mean it, self awareness, knowing what is going around. |
| |
... now I can talk to a crowd of people, chat with them, laugh without panicking and getting fever. When the shyness is gone and I got the self confidence, I can now go to the stage alone and perform to the people. |
| |
After being confident I learnt many things like contemporary dancing and I gained fitness and playing games like captain’s orders, badu badu. |
| |
I am able to any task that should be done by my self without waiting for my elders to order me do it. Like if it is reading my books, sweeping the compound, mopping the house, cooking, I do it by my self being a good example to my neighbours. |
| |
... if I get a problem, I first found the cause of the problem, reasons why the problem has occurred, would be positive or negative. I develop alternative solution to that problem. I select the best alternative to the problem and form that am able to first make a decision before I do something. |
| |
I got something that can drive me safely throughout my life time…. discussion about our hopes and dreams and the teachers could guide us. |
| |
| |
In Movement is Wonderful: |
In Movement always took us to attend certain occasions for example the Uganda Europe cultural day where I lead lots us fun watching the Uganda’s top artists live and meeting different people and their cultures. |
| |
We have been going to the camps, my first art camp was about coming out of the box. Coming out of the box means being with self confidence, self esteem, creative and to be involved in each and every thing….and I learnt many things like social life of the people, community… |
| |
Art and craft make my mind alert and creative. |
| |
Singing... it makes my mind face to be happy and to be known by every one. |
| |
... I got to know where I come from and who am. Am worth someone great in life and my background. |
| |
I joined In Movement it was a torch that lighted my brain and widen my eyes and ears to think big. |
| |
| |
In Movement Teachers: |
... many teachers teaching different activities. These activities include Art and Craft, Dancing, Singing, Drama, Poetry, Juggling and Circus. |
| |
... the teachers at In Movement are very friendly, caring, loving and they make me forget the past like about my miserable family. |
| |
When I am with In Movement teachers I feel like am with my parents. |
| |
... teachers are really able to guide and direct us whenever we have in wrong. |
| |
They always give us hopes and am sure we are going to have bright future. |
